Remote working is not the same as working from home – why it’s important to understand the difference and why it could be the solution your business needs.
Working from home – generally means that temporarily you don’t travel to the office a couple of days a week, you can still access your emails but you want to devote time to work on a project without interruptions plus you have no meetings planned. Your colleagues in the office adjust and cover your responsibilities while you are not there.
Remote working on the other hand is a different ball game. It is in fact the office – the difference being your office can be accessed from any location on practically any device. Remote working provides a secure environment whereby everyone can access and work on files just as if they were in the office itself, even their desktop background remains the same. A comfortable, recognisable environment with everything stored in exactly the same place.
The data is hosted on a central server, often cloud-based. You will always have fully up-to-date software, updated centrally along with secure encrypted data protected from ransomware and viruses all managed by IT professionals.
Covid-19 has taught us some valuable lessons, the very fact that roles which historically were thought impossible to carry out remotely have been proved otherwise. A workforce that is productive and reliable and appreciates the flexibility of this way of working. You can have a much smaller office with no worries about social distancing or even expansion. Yes I did say expansion!!
The environmental benefits have also been obvious, the reduction in travel being immense and remote working all helps to keep it this way. Along with this the need for a huge office with all the heating and lighting costs are no longer a requirement. You can have a workforce based anywhere, allowing you to hire the best person for the job.
It makes complete sense – this is the way forward.
